Day 27
Hey, Halloweenies!
It’s Roger back with you today. Just for recap, I’m the co-owner of Luna Books in Half Moon Bay, CA, and a friend of The Kelly Society. We are here to satisfy your paranormal thirst for knowledge.
Anyway, my favorite funny, yet spooky movies came from Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
Bud Abbott was the straight man. Lou Costello was the zany scaredy cat. From 1941 to 1955 they made fun horror movies. It has become a genre unto itself - Fun Horror. Throughout each film the monster or killer keeps popping up in a menacing manner and poor Costello quivers and quakes. Many times he cannot find his voice, tries to scream or tell someone what happens, and when the creature exits stage left, no one believes him. Even though it's the same action over and over, we still laugh and it never gets old. It's akin to Shaggy and Scooby never being believed by the others when they run into foes.
Adam Sandler has carried the torch for the beloved Abbott and Costello legacy. Hubie Halloween, which premiered on Netflix last October presented Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler) as a goofy rule following community outreach leader, but who everyone makes fun of. On Halloween night, he tries to find out what is happening to people who are being murdered, while trying to handle his own fear and nervousness. Adam does his token high pitched goofy voice and it works.
So, essentially, we love to be scared and we all love to laugh! Let's do that this Halloween.
Have a great one, and watch a fun horror movie with a lot of popcorn.
